For the Love Of Layers

Heello Dare.....working on Layer Love Lesson 4 with Julie Prichard. I am having a good ole time. Learning so much. Pretty soon I'm gonna have to stop saying I'm self taught, thanks to Julie, and Misty and Albie and Claudine and Fred and Leighanna and Anne and Dan and many more that I just can't remember due to menopause. teehee.
So here is my palette:

And here is where I deviated from instruction. Before adding the crackle paste, I thought it would be cool to have some sparkle and black flakes showing thru here and there.

Here it is wet.

Here it is dry.

Crackle paste.

Adding Paint.

Yummy crackle detail #1. "Vanity" crackle shot if you will. I couldn't resist, cuz I'm lovin it!!
Another Vanity crackle shot.

And WaLa, the finished background. I ended up flipping it upside down. For details join us over at The Land of Lost Luggage and get your Layer Learn On!!

I think there is just enuf sparkle, don't you?? xoSusan
PS oh crap now that I'm looking at it, do you think I need to get rid of that thick black line in the lower corner??? I like that it's darker and I don't want to loose definition but it does look like a line doesn't it?? comments?? hand holding?? talking me off the ledge???

Change is a Scarey Subject

For me anyway. So that is how I represented it in these 2 collages, spooky and mysterious. The first utilizes the background I made in Julie Prichard's Layer Love online workshop. Here it is:

The second Change collage is even scarier. There is a spooky skull hidden in there. LOL. The canvas is wrapped with painted deli paper. I LOVE making paper. Thank you again to Marianne for these fabulous images. The transfer of the large crow was done using Elmers Caulk and the transfer on the mulberry paper was spray alcohol.
I'm not really in love with either of these pieces, but I learned a lot, both what to do and what not to do.
 Feel me??

Transfer Fun

I worked a little more on Lesson 2 from Julie Prichard's Layer Love class. The class steps are all done, but I got inspired by the background and started adding things.....My first addition was a crow transfer using Elmer's Caulk, inkjet image and transparency. Thanks go out to Marianne from Marianne's Art Blog for the caulk, directions, image and inspiration!! Mk ROCKS!! plus she has awesome taste in music...just sayin.

Here is the inkjet image printed on transparancy:

India Ink and calligraphy pen vines:

I didn't wait long enough and some of the transfer lifted, so I just painted in the blank spots:

Goin to fill in with some more paper here and there I think, highlight the vines more....Tell me what you think.....xoSusan

Learning About Layers

I have joined an amazing video workshop given by Julie Prichard of The Land Of Lost Luggage. It's called Layer Love. This experience is a lot of fun because my friend Kathy No Blog has joined me. We are painting side by side from across the US via iphone pics!!Yeah, we're cool like that.teehee. Julie has other workshops available, but I hopped on this one because she will not be taking new students for this class after May 31. Check out all her workshop offerings, I have only just begun, I'm coveting the Complex Collage one for next time.
I'm not going to go into written detail (cuz Julie would, like, so kick my ass) here, just going to show you a picture trail of my steps in my first attempt:

The last two are the finished painting in case you were wondering. I'm calling it finished. Now I've shown these photos to several people and have asked which orientation they like best. I'm not telling you what I like until you tell me what you like. well? I'm waiting......

Here is the second project:

This one is not done, but I don't have time to add the finishing steps before I go to Va TOMORROW!!! Why am I still blogging when I have no clean socks and I cant find the pair of jeans that I can zip up???? xoSusan
